Fujitsu president says company not to spin-off chip business

May 26, 2005 – Fujitsu Ltd. has no plans to spin off its semiconductor business for now, president Hiroaki Kurokawa said Wednesday at a briefing for investors, according to Jiji Press Ltd. Fujitsu does not intend to concentrate on making chips for other companies, as Taiwanese foundries do.

On the system large-scale IC chip business, Kurokawa said Fujitsu plans to increase production of LSIs using 90nm processing technology. He said such products will account for 10% of Fujitsu’s LSIs in fiscal 2007, up from 3% in fiscal 2004 that ended in March.

Kurokawa said Fujitsu aims to increase LSI sales to over 400 billion yen (US$3.71 billion) in fiscal 2007, up from nearly 300 billion yen in fiscal 2004. He also said the company plans to increase revenue from computer system services, from system integration to management and maintenance, to 600 billion yen (US$5.57 billion), up from 345 billion yen.
