SIA Says March Semi Sales Were Up

“Worldwide sales of semiconductors continued to outpace forecasted levels in the first quarter of 2005,” says SIA President George Scalise. “The first quarter is historically a relatively weak one for the microchip industry. The unexpected strength of semiconductor sales, with 13% growth over a very strong period a year ago, is a good sign for the industry.”

(May 04, 2005) Chandler, Ariz.&#8212Amkor Technology Inc.’s first quarter 2005 sales totaled $418 million, down 8% sequentially, and down 10% from the first quarter of 2004. The company’s first quarter net loss was $119 million and included a provision for legal settlements, with no tax benefit, of $50 million.
