Sumitomo contracts to develop nanotech business

May 13, 2005 — Tokyo-based Sumitomo Corp. said today it has contracted with NanoFrontier Pte., a nanotechnology research and development company in Singapore, to develop and promote nanotechnology-related business. Under the deal, the Japanese trading house will jointly carry out research and development projects with NanoFrontier, help commercialize NanoFrontier’s technology and help procure necessary materials and equipment for R&D in the field.

Sumitomo has been expanding business in the field, including the launch of a project to help commercialize carbon nanotubes.
