June 15, 2005 – Asahi Glass Co. will spend about 25 billion yen (US$228.4 million) to build a new production line to manufacture glass substrates for use in large-size liquid crystal displays, an Asahi Glass spokesman said Tuesday, reported the Nikkei English News.
Asahi Glass will soon begin construction of a kiln, which will cost 15 billion yen (US$137 million), to produce so-called eighth-generation glass substrates as early as October 2006. The company will also spend 10 billion yen to launch facilities for polishing the substrates.
Asahi Glass will add these facilities at its Takasago Plant in Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan.
