Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials, CMP Technologies Announces ISO/TS 16949 Conformance

PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 28, 2005–Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials, CMP Technologies, a leader and innovator in polishing technology for the global semiconductor industry, announced that its Newark, Delaware facility conforms to ISO/TS 16949, the international technical specification for automotive and relevant service parts providers. This move underscores the company’s commitment to satisfy customer, regulatory and internal quality management system requirements.

CMP Technologies manufactures pads and slurries used for chemical mechanical polishing (CMP). Its products create the flawless surfaces essential for making the fast and powerful semiconductors used in electronic devices and in the automotive industry. Suppliers of automotive-related products, which include some of CMP Technologies’ customers, achieve ISO/TS 16949 certification after meeting rigorous standards for design, development, production, installation or service.

“We believe it’s important to align our standards to that of our customers. By conforming to the set guidelines, we provide assurance of defect prevention, as well as increased efficiency and improved customer yield,” said Thomas Pilla, executive vice president of operations, Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials, CMP Technologies. “The outcomes of our internal ISO/TS 16949 audits steer our drive for constant improvement, ongoing development and consistency of our products.”

CMP Technologies pursues all relevant ISO certifications for its manufacturing and operations facilities, including environmental, health and safety programs. As an integral part of its continuous improvement plan, CMP Technologies conducts routine internal audits through ISO/TS-trained auditors to verify that its systems meet the stringent requirements and are effectively implemented and maintained.

Although it has met all of the standards for ISO/TS 16949, CMP Technologies is not eligible for third-party registration for this ISO standard because it does not supply directly to the automotive industry. By providing the results of the ISO/TS 16949 self-assessments to its customers as confirmation of conformance, the company further solidifies its commitment to improve customer satisfaction while remaining proactive with worldwide quality initiatives. In addition to its conformance with ISO/TS 16949, CMP Technologies has achieved ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:1996 certification.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer of standards. It is a non-governmental organization comprised of national standards institutes from 150 countries. ISO standards contribute to making the development, manufacturing and supply of products and services more efficient, safer and cleaner.
