Kent Displays licenses to Japan firm

July 20, 2005 — Kent Displays of Kent, Ohio, announced it licensed its cholesteric “no power” LCD technology to Fujitsu Frontech Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan.

The technology enables what are known as bi-stable displays — displays that only require power when the information on them is changed, as opposed to conventional displays, which require power all the time.

Other current licensees of Kent’s cholesteric portfolio include Eastman Kodak Co. of Rochester, N.Y., Nanox Corp. of Fukushima-City, Japan, Matsushita of Osaka, Japan, Varitronix Ltd. of Hong Kong, Light Space Technologies of Norwalk, Conn. and Vlyte Corp. of Limerick, Ireland.

Kent says that it currently holds 86 patents in its licensing portfolio — 46 in the United States and 40 in countries including Japan, China, Great Britain, Korea, Taiwan, Italy, Israel, Germany, Sweden, France and the Netherlands.
