During the first quarter, wafer sales reached 49.2 million Euros, an 25.7% sequential increase over the previous quarter and 60.4% year-on-year. Sales volumes rose across all major wafer diameters, and underlying sales growth rose to 68% vs. the same period one year ago. Demand for 300-mm SOI wafers drove a 277% increase in 300-mm sales year-on-year. As a result, for the first time, 300-mm wafers accounted for the majority of all wafer sales — representing 54% vs. 23% for the same period last year.
Soitec licensing revenues also benefited from the industry’s adoption of SOI. For the first quarter of 2005-2006, the Group reported royalties of 0.7 million Euros — a 126% increase over the prior first quarter. At the same time, the Group realized a strong sequential increase in its Picogiga-related sales, which rose 50% to total 1.3 million Euros.
