Arrowhead subsidiary nets SBIR

Aug. 11, 2005 — Arrowhead Research Corp. (NASDAQ: ARWR) announced that a majority-owned subsidiary, Aonex Technologies Inc., has been awarded a Phase I SBIR grant to use its process to advance a new class of solar cells.

The company says the Aonex process uses lighter weight substrates to enable solar cells that are more efficient, more powerful and less expensive to manufacture. The Phase I grant is approximately $100,000.

Aonex is commercializing a proprietary process for fabricating semiconductor nanomaterials to help device manufacturers in several markets reduce costs and improve performance. Aonex is currently applying its technology to next-generation solar cells and other optoelectronic devices. Longer term, the company seeks to enable devices with optical, logical, and amplification features on a single substrate.
