Aug. 25, 2005 – The trustees of the University of Massachusetts approved an extensive five-year capital plan Wednesday that earmarks $2.26 billion for projects that include a nanotechnology laboratory, the Boston Globe reported. The Worcester campus is expected to get $80 million for a NANOTech/BioTech Laboratory, and the Amherst campus was tagged for $73 million for the first construction phase of an integrated science building.
Gov. Mitt Romney pledged last month to set aside $400 million in surplus dollars for public university capital improvements. That proposal must be approved by the legislature.
