Wyeth opens mega biotech facility

MADISON, N.J. – Wyeth’s (www.wyeth.com) new 1.2-million-square-foot campus in Dublin, Ireland, believed to be one of the world’s largest biotechnology production facilities, is poised to produce advanced pharmaceutical technologies ranging from arthritis treatments to an antibiotic to fight serious skin and intra-abdominal hospital-acquired infections.

Site development at the $2 billion facility began in late 2002, with construction incurring seven million personnel hours of engineering and building, and 15,000 tons of structural steel. The campus employs more than 1,000, and will eventually comprise three separate facilities: a drug development unit, drug substance site, and drug product facility. Production will be phased in over the next four years.
