December 2, 2005 – NanoDynamics Inc. and New Zealand-based partner Nano Cluster Devices Ltd. (NCD) say they will commercialize new nanowire fabrication technology, for use in semiconductors and nanoscale electronic devices. The two plan to combine “top-down” and “bottom-up” methods to achieve precision and scale, as well as cost and speed in manufacturing, to enable highly controllable, self-assembled atomic clusters for faster, more precise semiconductor fabrication.

NCD’s technology has been demonstrated in development in several devices, including a hydrogen sensor prototype; technology to produce conductive wire patterns while eliminating the “lift-off” process step used in semiconductor lithography processes; a process for arranging atomic clusters of conductive material into a V-groove, and then self-weld to create a conductive wire; and a cluster assembly process based on “shadow mask” techniques, whereby nanoclusters are used to build narrow wires without agglomerating or clogging the stencil.
