Brande appointed Chair of ISO/TC 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments

January 16, 2006 — /IEST/ — ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — David E. Brande has been named Chair of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. The appointment, effective January 1, 2006, is for the period 2006-2011. The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) is Secretariat of ISO/TC 209, which develops and maintains the ISO 14644 and 14698 series of cleanroom standards.

Brande is president and founder of Contamination Control Technologies Inc., which provides cleanroom and biological safety cabinet certifications and performs international consulting services to the pharmaceutical, medical device, and biomedical research industries. He has been certified by NSF International as an Accredited BioSafety Cabinet Field Certifier, and as a National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) Cleanroom Performance Testing Supervisor.

Active for more than 11 years on ISO/TC 209, Brande has served as an expert advisor to US delegates voting on ISO 14644-3 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments-Part 3: Test Methods. He has been involved in IEST working groups for Recommended Practices IEST-CC002: Unidirectional Flow Clean-Air Devices, IEST-RP-CC006: Testing Cleanrooms, and IEST-RP-CC034: HEPA and ULPA Filter Leak Tests.

A past president and board member of the Controlled Environment Testing Association, Brande also is an active member of NEBB, the Carolina Biological Safety Association, and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.

Brande replaces Richard A. Matthews, who chaired ISO/TC 209 from its inception in 1993 until his retirement as Chair in 2005.

Founded in 1953, IEST is an international technical society of engineers, scientists, and educators that serves its members and the industries they represent (simulating, testing, controlling, and teaching the environments of earth and space) through education and the development of recommended practices and standards.

IEST is an ANSI-accredited standards-developing organization; Secretariat of ISO/TC 209 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments; Administrator of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 209; and a founding member of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 229 Nanotechnologies.
