Xilinx buys DSP designer

January 16, 2006 – FPGA supplier Xilinx Inc., San Jose, CA, has acquired AccelChip Inc., a Milpitas, CA-based provider of software for building digital signal processing (DSP) systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although Xilinx indicated it represented <1% of assets for its 3Q ended in December (assets as of Oct. 1 were roughly $3.17 billion). The companies said they have significant customer overlap in areas of digital communications, multimedia, and defense. AccelChip has two design centers in North America.
