Feb. 14, 2006 — /BUSINESS WIRE/ — LOGAN, Utah — HyClone, an innovative developer of cell-culture products and bioprocessing systems, has expanded its Beijing operations to offer prepared liquid media for customers throughout China and other parts of Asia. It is the first non-Chinese business to offer large-scale liquid-media manufacturing in that country.
A unit of Fisher Scientific’s Biosciences group, HyClone opened its Beijing facility in January 2005, launching a powdered-media repackaging and sales operation. Since then, HyClone has begun cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) manufacturing of liquid cell-culture media. The Beijing facility was constructed with the same state-of-the-art design employed at HyClone’s manufacturing headquarters in Logan, Utah. It strictly follows cGMP standards, providing the highest quality products with the ability to adapt formulations for Chinese academic and industrial customers.

HyClone’s 28,750-square-foot Beijing facility includes sales and marketing offices, clean rooms for the repackaging of bulk powdered media, quality-control laboratories, as well as the recently opened liquid-media production area. HyClone also plans to add a research-and-development laboratory.
A majority of the customers served by the Beijing facility are leading Chinese research institutes and pharmaceutical companies, including research and manufacturing enterprises associated with drug and vaccine production. “This market is growing rapidly,” Strijbos added, “and with this growth, Fisher is positioned to provide our customers with a wide range of tools and technologies beyond cell-culture media that will improve their efficiency.
