Identica announces its antimicrobial silver treated vascular biometric scanner that kills 99.9 percent of biofilm

February 7, 2006 — /PRIMEZONE/ — TAMPA, Fla. — Identica Holdings Corporation announces the release of its new Vascular Pattern Recognition (VPR) biometric scanner treated with Antimicrobial Silver. The treatment is used by manufacturers of medical devices and Wound and Burn dressings to combat Biofilm. Biofilms are composed of populations or communities of microorganisms adhering to environmental surfaces. Biofilms may be found on essentially any environmental surface in which sufficient moisture is present. Their development is most rapid in flowing systems where adequate nutrients are available. Biofilm is the major contributing factor to infections in patients.

Antimicrobial Silver, in its positively charged ionic form, attacks microorganisms by simultaneously targeting multiple sites within the cell, resulting in the destruction of microorganisms.

“This is a significant development for users of our biometric devices,” said Terry Wheeler, President of Identica Holdings Corporation. “For hygienic reasons, users are concerned about touching other biometric scanners. The Antimicrobial Silver treatment has been applied to all external components of the VPR scanner and was independently tested by FITI Testing and Research Institute in Seoul Korea and found to kill 99.9% of biofilm within 24 hours.”

“Techsphere began their research and development on the use of antimicrobial silver 18 months ago because users want a hygienic biometric device,” said Alex Choi, President and Chairman of Techsphere Co., Ltd. “We initially intended to provide the silver treated scanner as an option but are very pleased to announce that Identica is providing this as a standard feature for all VPR biometric scanners it supplies to the market.
