IEST offers valuable online education classes

January 31, 2006 — /IEST/ — ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) continues to offer valuable online education classes in its “Access the Experts” series. “Electrostatic Charge Control and IEST RP-CC022.2” will be presented on Wednesday, April 19 at 11:00 AM Central Daylight Savings Time.

This live one-hour course will explore many aspects of electrostatic charge control. The instructor will focus on static charge parameters, the generation of static charge, and its effects. In addition, elements of ESD control will be discussed. Personnel and equipment issues are also very important with regard to electrostatic charge control. Issues on apparel and personnel grounding devices, and equipment such as floor and work surfaces, will be covered in this class. Also incorporated into the class will be a discussion on ionizers.

IEST RP-CC022.2: Electrostatic charge in cleanrooms and other controlled environments will be distributed to all of the course participants.

Dr. Lawrence Levit, the instructor, is the Chief Scientist for MKS, Ion Systems, and a NARTE Certified ESD Engineer. He is responsible for planning technology implementation for MKS, Ion Systems products in cleanrooms. He is also responsible for the technical direction of the MKS, Ion Systems electrostatic management consulting management practice. He is a senior member of the IEST. He has provided ESD consulting to many leading semiconductor, disk drive and flat panel corporations worldwide. Before joining MKS, Ion Systems, Levit held technical support, sales and marketing roles at LeCroy Corporation and Jandel Scientific Software. At LeCroy, he contributed to the instrumentation designs for six experiments which produced Nobel prizes in physics. Levit also taught physics and conducted research in high energy and cosmic ray physics.

Founded in 1953, IEST is an international technical society of engineers, scientists, and educators that serves its members and the industries they represent (simulating, testing, controlling, and teaching the environments of earth and space) through education and the development of recommended practices and standards.

IEST is an ANSI-accredited standards-developing organization; Secretariat of ISO/TC 209 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments; Administrator of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 209; and a founding member of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 229 Nanotechnologies.

This online environment will allow for personnel around the world in the contamination control industry to take advantage of this educational opportunity. More information is available online at www.iest.org or by calling IEST at (847) 255-1561.
