Micron merging memory units, shuffles execs

February 10, 2006 – Micron Technology Inc. is merging its mobile and systems memory business units into one memory group, combining its businesses for NAND flash, DRAM and specialty memory.

“Micron’s products, customers and the solutions we enable have evolved to a point where changing parts of our organization will continue to increase our presence and competitiveness in the global marketplace,” said Steve Appleton, Micron Chairman, president and CEO.

Heading the new unit will be VP Brian Shirley, formerly DRAM design manager. Jan du Preez, formerly VP of the mobile memory group, will be VP of memory marketing; John Schreck, former design manager for the mobile memory group, will be VP of DRAM development; and Frankie Roohparvar, previously senior director of flash memory design, has been promoted to VP of NAND development.

Also, Micron has appointed CTO and VP/R&D Mark Durcan to the position of COO, overseeing the company’s global operations.
