100 percent sterile process sets industry standard; Eliminates exposure to airborne contaminants
February 15, 2006 — /BUSINESS WIRE/ — PHILADELPHIA — CorCell, Inc., a national, private umbilical cord blood (UCB) bank, announced today that its patent-pending, sterile and closed connection technique exceeds current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines, setting a new industry quality standard. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sets cGMP standards, regulations governing the quality manufacturing of drugs, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
CorCell’s German affiliate, Vita 34 AG, developed the revolutionary method for processing adult stem cells found in umbilical cord blood. The 100 percent sterile technique ensures every specimen is processed in a sterile system from collection through processing and storage, protecting the original purity level of a newborn’s umbilical cord blood.
CorCell’s process protects umbilical cord blood from airborne contaminants as the UCB is never poured from one container to another, and ports in the processing and storage bags are never punctured when processing agents are added, avoiding the possibility of spillage or exposure to bacteria and viruses in the air. In addition, all CorCell umbilical cord blood specimens are sterile processed in the company’s private laboratory within Community Blood Services, an American Association of Blood Banks accredited blood bank located in Bergen County, N.J.
“CorCell’s sterile technique confirms our promise of extraordinary purity and quality assurance,” commented CorCell’s President and CEO Marcia Laleman. “Under federal cGMP guidelines, our process acts essentially as a ‘Class Zero’ clean room. Even when processed under hoods, other methods expose a newborn’s umbilical cord blood to the air, increasing contamination risks and spillage. CorCell’s sterile closed technique removes those safety risks completely.”
CorCell, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vita34 International AG, is located in Philadelphia and is a national leader in private family cord blood banking. CorCell utilizes an internationally known AABB accredited laboratory and storage facility. For additional information contact (215) 864.0400 or visit www.corcell.com.
