Cohu buys Unisys test assets

March 21, 2006 – Cohu Inc., Poway, CA, said that its Delta Design subsidiary has acquired semiconductor burn-in products, IP, and other assets from Unisys Corp.’s Unigen operation for $8 million.

The deal involves technology to enable precise temperature control and heat dissipation during test and burn-in of high-speed, high-power ICs. They are seen complimenting Delta’s Summit and ETC thermal test handling platforms. James Donahue, Cohu president and CEO, noted Unigen’s thermal control, machine design, systems control and software expertise, as well as synergies in customers, technology, and geographic locations.

Delta Design will absorb approximately 40 engineers and other Unigen personnel in CA and AZ, and add the unit’s ~10,000 sq. ft facility in Chandler, AZ. An acquired backlog of approximately $14.5 million will be included in new orders for the quarter ending March 25, 2006.
