ISMI to offer fab software testing

March 22, 2006 – International Sematech Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) is soliciting industry participants to help create an advanced software tester (AST), a utility to emulate semiconductor factory environments to validate equipment integration and automation capabilities under SEMI standards.

ISMI said it will work with companies that are developing the AST, and provide them with direction and technical expertise in a neutral environment while ensuring protection of their IP, stated Steve Fulton, ISMI equipment integration and automation manager. The goal is to evaluate the technologies for industry effectiveness much the way an independent laboratory tests consumer products for safety and functionality. “We will define the criteria and validate the capability, integrity, and standardized performance of AST products, and we will work with as many suppliers as our resources allow,” he added.

ISMI is currently working with member companies to define consensus requirements to support AST testing, and will make those lists reference lists commercially available.
