April 6, 2006 – Sematech’s Advanced Technology Development Facility (ATDF) R&D subsidiary has agreed to produce wafers with nonclassical CMOS transistors using implants and FinFET designs for Japan’s Elpida Memory for use in simulations, the two groups have announced.
ATDF also will work with Elpida engineers to evaluate materials as well as etch, clean, and deposition processes for advanced memory technology for production starting in 2010. Elpida wanted to partner with someone for R&D prototyping because its own development facility is primarily configured for volume manufacturing, noted Takao Adachi, CTO of Elpida.
ATDF, established as an independent business in 2004, counts among its recent and current clients AMD, Infineon, Mattson Technology, Soitec, and Texas Instruments.
