Firms form support group for clockless IC tech

April 25, 2006 – Handshake Solutions, a business unit of Philips Electronics, has formed a Handshake Technology Ecosystem to bring in partners such as EDA vendors and foundries, design houses, IP suppliers, tool resellers, and training providers to support its clockless IC technology. Initial participants in the network are IBM Japan Industrial Solutions Co. Ltd., Bruco Integrated Circuits BV., Silicon & Software Systems Ltd. (S3) and GDA Technologies Inc.

Clockless IC designs do not use a clock or associated architecture to control chip activity, a feature that reduces power consumption and lowers electromagnetic emission and current spikes.

Handshake said a “range of support tools” for the ecosystem of partners, including a Web portal, are currently being developed.
