Lam profits up 10% Q-Q, sales up 22%

April 13, 2006 – Lam Research Corp., Fremont, CA, posted earnings of $86.3 million in its fiscal 3Q06 ended in March, vs. $77.8 million in the prior quarter, on 22% higher revenues of $437.4 million.

Compared with a year ago, sales were up 25%, and profits increased 45%. Gross margins inched up to 50.2% sequentially, and operating income increased 43%.

New orders in backlog rose 29% to $520 million, with a slight increase in orders from Japan, and fewer from Europe. Unshipped orders in backlog were flat at approximately $404 million, with $90 million in deferred revenue from orders shipped to Japanese customers.
