Samsung rolls out 2GB phone memory

April 20, 2006 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has developed a 2GB MultiMediaCard with four 4Gbit NAND flash devices, the highest capacity card for mobile phones.

The 2GB MMC, sized 12mm x 14mm x 1.1mm, transmits data 3.5x faster than other cards, able to download and store 12 hrs of mobile video in under two minutes, according to the company. It operates at either 1.8V or 3.3V.

Samsung announced development of a 1GB card three months ago, a device expected to be commercially available later this year.
