April 10, 2006 – Taiwan’s top two foundries both reported solid double-digit increases in sales during 1Q06, ahead of expectations.
TSMC posted sales of US $2.39 billion, up 13% from 4Q05 and 39% better than a year ago, and higher than initial guidance of $2.25-$2.35 billion.
UMC, meanwhile, said its 1Q06 sales rose 20% vs. 1Q05 to $754.33 million, better than the expected range of $720-$740 million, due to strong demand for chips in communication devices.
