UTAC expanding Singapore facilities

April 21, 2006 – Backend services provider United Test and Assembly Center (UTAC) has opened its second production facility in Singapore, and announced an additional $300M investment plan to further expand capacity.

The new site in Ang Mo Kio will consolidate all of UTAC’s test and total backend services for mixed-signal and logic products, focusing on high value-added memory test and packaging activities, with a combined logistics center for all of the company’s products shipping out of Singapore. Renovations and refurbishments began in January, and are expected to be fully completed by early 2007.

UTAC also announced it will invest about $313 million over the next five years, mostly for adding mixed-signal logic and processing machines, as well as wire bonders and memory testers. The Singapore Economic Development Board will assist with extended tax incentives and employee training benefits.

UTAC’s Singapore facilities currently account for about two-thirds of the company’s revenues. UTAC also has manufacturing operations in Shanghai and Taiwan.
