Air Products to supply TSMC, Chi Mei fabs

May 10, 2006 – Air Products has signed contracts to supply nitrogen and bulk gases to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Chi Mei Optoelectronics to serve their semiconductor and flat-panel display manufacturing facilities in Taiwan’s Tainan Science Industrial Park.

Subsidiary Air Products San Fu will serve TSMC’s phase 2 expansion of Fab 14, its second 300mm/90-65nm facility that opened in 3Q04. The site currently has capacity of roughly 20,000 wafer starts/month, and is projected to reach 38,000 wafer starts/month by 4Q06, more than halfway to the ultimate goal of 60,000 wafers/month output.

Air Products also will supply gases to Chi Mei’s Fab 7 facility, to support manufacturing of generation 7.5 thin-film transistor liquid-crystal displays (TFT-LCD).

“The new contracts further solidify our long-term partnership with TSMC and CMO, as well as our leading supply position in TSIP,” stated Corning Painter, VP of Air Products’ Asia Electronics and North Asia operations. “These contracts are the direct result of the investments we have made in expanding our global infrastructure and local supply over the years to better serve our customers in Asia.”

The gas company plans to build an air separation unit in the park in order to support its growing roster of resident customers, including TSMC (Fab 6 and Fab 14, phase 1), UMC (Fab 12A), and Chi Mei (Fab 3, Fab 4, Fab 5, and Fab 7).
