Metron buying UMS to expand Singapore services

May 10, 2006 – Metron Technology Inc., San Jose, CA, the fab support services arm of Applied Materials Inc., has signed a deal to purchase UMS Solutions Pte. Ltd.’s parts cleaning and recycling business in Singapore for $9.28 million, boosting its capabilities to serve customers in Southeast Asia.

With the deal, Metron will expand its 200mm and 300mm capabilities, including robotic arc and plasma spray, full copper and non-copper segregation, and 90nm-and-below services. The unit will be operated as part of Metron, which owns and operates other parts cleaning facilities in North America and Europe, Israel, Taiwan, and Singapore.

The deal marks the second recent expansion effort for Metron. In late 2005, the company acquired ChemTrace Corp. and its precision cleaning business, which offers a variety of parts cleaning methods and materials testing services in the US and Taiwan.
