Report: Chartered readying 300mm/90nm deliveries to AMD

May 22, 2006 – Singapore foundry Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. is readying delivery of new microprocessors utilizing 300mm/90nm process technologies to partner Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), several months earlier than expected, according to a Reuters report.

The initial orders are for 1000 300mm wafers using 90nm technology, for which Chartered began production in May, targeting July shipments, noted “an industry source” quoted in the story, adding that AMD has the option to increase the load to 3000 wafers/month. Chartered previously had indicated it would make the AMD chips in mid- to late-2006.

Last week PC maker Dell Inc. indicated it would start using AMD’s Opteron processors in its machines by year’s end, in addition to its lineup of Intel-based systems.
