Vanguard, AnalogicTech forge BCD tech pact

May 2, 2006 – Taiwan specialty foundry Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp. has signed a deal to produce Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc.’s (AnalogicTech) 0.35-micron multivoltage mixed-signal ModularBCD process technology at its 200mm facilities.

The deal helps Vanguard extend its process capabilities into bipolar, CMOS, and DMOS (BCD) technology, and furthers AnalogicTech’s efforts to reuse DRAM fabs for producing power management ICs. Vanguard also will be able to offer the ModularBCD process to other fabless companies and IDMs that do not compete with AnalogicTech’s power management technologies, used in handsets and other consumer electronics devices.

AnalogicTech says its ModularBCD process technology uses a low-temperature CMOS-like manufacturing flow instead of high-temperature processes and expensive epitaxial deposition to achieve electrical isolation. Process modules and devices for different voltages can be added or removed in a modular fashion, enabling analog and mixed signal circuit reuse.

“VIS is committed to becoming the world leader in specialty and customized IC manufacturing foundry services,” stated Steve Pletcher, managing director at VIS Micro, VIS’ marketing arm in North America. “Complementing our extensive analog CMOS, high-voltage, mixed-signal, and conventional BCD foundry offering, the high-integration, electrical isolation, and multivoltage capability of ModularBCD is ideal for today’s complex ICs and system-on-chip integration.”
