Reports: Spansion investing $1.2B for Japan flash lines

June 16, 2006 – Spansion Inc., the former flash JV of AMD and Fujitsu, plans to invest $1.2 billion over the next three years to build a new 300mm production line at its plant in northern Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, according to local media reports. The new line, set to begin operation in 2H07, will initially utilize 65nm processes, and incorporate 45nm processes by mid-2008.

Spansion, which focuses mainly on NOR flash memory, ranked as the fourth-biggest flash memory provider in terms of revenue, in a recent report from analyst iSuppli Corp.
