Reports: Toshiba building backend plant in Thailand

June 29, 2006 – Toshiba Corp. is planning to set up a chipmaking facility near Bangkok, Thailand, to expand capabilities in backend chip processing for discrete products including small-signal and optoelectronic devices, according to local news reports. Construction of the site, run by Toshiba Semiconductor Thailand Co. Ltd., will begin in July, with an initial investment of about 2 billion yen (US $17.2 million).
