SMIC, Elpida qualify 90nm DDR2 SDRAM

June 19, 2006 – Elpida Memory Inc. says its 512bit DDR SDRAM utilizing 90nm process technologies has successfully been qualified at Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.’s (SMIC) 300mm facility in Beijing.

The Japanese firm will explore utilizing the Chinese foundry for future products, according to president/CEO Yukio Sakamoto, in a statement. “SMIC will take aggressive steps to establish stable volume production of the product and expand our production capacity” to further work with Elpida on more advanced products, added Richard Chang, SMIC president and CEO.
