Freescale joins fab owners group

July 13, 2006 – The Fab Owners Association (FOA), a nonprofit group representing largely second-tier semiconductor manufacturers, has added Freescale Semiconductor’s Oakhill facility (Austin, TX) as a voting member, and welcomed four other firms as associate members: CIMAC Inc. (San Jose, CA), Aviza Technology Inc. (Scotts Valley, CA), Tara Technology Inc. (Daytona Beach, FL), and Colliers International/Advanced Technology Real Estate Group (Seattle, WA).

The FOA touts benefits of membership including collaboration on common manufacturing problems as well as a member-to-member used equipment purchasing exchange and collaborative purchasing efficiencies.

In April the FOA added Philips Semiconductors and MagnaChip Semiconductor as voting members, as well as seven new associates, including Toppan Photomasks and Vistec Semiconductor Systems (formerly Leica Microsystems).

The FOA’s devicemaker members currently represent approximately 800,000 200mm-equivalent monthly wafer starts, and more than $21 billion in annual revenue. Members now include AMI Semiconductor, Cypress Semiconductor, Delphi Microelectronics Center, Fairchild Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor, Intersil, Jazz Semiconductor, LSI Logic, MagnaChip Semiconductors, Micrel Semiconductor, ON Semiconductor, Philips Semiconductors, Spansion, and ZMD AG.
