Produce Safety & Security International Inc. new division proceeds with extended shelf-life and sanitation for the seafood industry

Produce Safety & Security International new division Innovative Food Systems provides solution against E. coli H157, Salmonella and Listeria outbreaks in the seafood industry

June 21, 2006 — /MARKET WIRE/ — PRESCOTT, AZ — Produce Safety and Security International, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: PDSC), an ozone and chemical sanitation disinfectant process supplier to the food and medical industries, announces that its new division, Innovative Food Systems (“IFS”), will provide food safe products for the seafood industry.

The ozone process will begin at the point the Seafood is caught. The procedure will also include storage on the vessel, delivery to the port, delivery to the distribution center, and delivery to the retail store. This will be a constant process until the customer takes the product home.

Ozone leaves no residue in the water or on the product, (because it breaks down back to oxygen) means no change in color or flavor. Using ozone gives more assurance against bacteria organisms and at the same time, conserves water and extends the shelf life of the product. There are two steps in most cleaning procedures. First, cleaning the surface areas and removing the organic residues in which the bacteria live. Secondly, sanitizing is done to destroy any bacteria remaining on the surface.

Five years of research and development and three years of validation by the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, have confirmed IFS’ ability to extend the shelf life of perishable Seafood by as much as 5 days. In addition, the test protocol achieved up to a 99.9% reduction of microorganisms including pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli 0157 H: 07.

Clarence W. Karney, CEO of Produce Safety & Security International, states, “Innovative Food Systems has developed an active seafood industry solution, from sea to table, that addresses two of the most serious problems, shelf life extension and the reduction of pathogens causing food borne illness. Shelf life extension of seafood is extremely important, because of its direct effect on the bottom line for those companies using the process. This process at the retail level offers an inexpensive and easy to implement technology that can begin paying for itself upon installation.”
