Equity Consortium Acquires Stake in Royal Philips

(August 22, 2006) LONDON &#151 Boston, Mass.-based Bain Capital and Apax Partners of London signed definitive commitment documents to join the private equity consortium that will acquire part of Royal Philips Electronics. The consortium agreed to buy 80.1% stake in the company’s Semiconductor Division business. Royal Philips decided to sell majority holdings in the business earlier this month. The consortium comprises Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Co., Silver Lake Partners, AlpInvest Partners NV, and the two entering firms. The firms offer a history of technology and semiconductor business investments.
