ST to use Samsung’s OneNAND flash memory

October 23, 2006 – STMicroelectronics has licensed One NAND flash memory technology from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., with support starting in early 2007, the companies announced. The technology will be used in various applications including mobile devices and handsets.

Samsung’s OneNAND flash memory includes a NAND core with SRAM and logic elements to emulate a NOR Flash interface. The company says the technology achieves sustained data “read” speed of 108 MB/sec (4x faster than conventional NAND flash memory), and a “write” speed of 10 MBe/sec, more than 46x faster than multilevel-cell NOR flash.
