Newport, IPG settle optical patent suit

February 6, 2007 – Newport Corp. and IPG Photonics Corp. say they have settled patent infringement claims and counterclaims made between IPG and Newport subsidiary Spectra-Physics.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but IPG said the agreement should not have a material impact on its financial statements or condition.

The initial complaint, filed in US District Court in Northern California in June 2006, alleged that certain of IPG’s optical fiber laser and amplifier products infringed a US patent owned by Spectra-Physics.
