Intel rolls out greener flash packaging

March 7, 2007 – Intel Corp. has unveiled halogen-free packages for its NOR flash family, StrataFlash Cellular Memory (M18) products, which eliminate halogenated flame retardants from the packaging materials.

The company says the packages are already designed into platforms from “many handset manufacturers” for production this year. “While important to environmentally conscious customers worldwide, this initiative is especially significant to our European customers,” noted Glen Hawk, GM of Intel’s flash products group.

One of those customers, Sony Ericsson, has already integrated halogen-free parts into production models being sold globally, noted Mats Pellb
