ASML to open R&D center in Taiwan

April 11, 2007 – ASML recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to open a facility in Taiwan to support customers across the Asia-Pacific region in various aspects including technology and application developments, said the Taiwan Economic News.

According to the Netherlands-headquartered ASML, full operation of the facility will begin in 2Q08. The company’s president and CEO, Eric Meurice, pointed out that the Asia-Pacific region is his company’s major market, which accounted for two-thirds of its 2006 sales.

ASML is operating similar facilities in the United States and Europe. Backed by an advantageous incentive offering, MOEA officials started talking with ASML’s executives three years ago over the investment deal.
