Japanese wafer reclaimer hiking 300mm capacity

April 24, 2007 – Rasa Industries Ltd. is spending about 3 billion yen (US $25.3 million) on in its wafer reclamation business to boost 300mm wafer-handling capacity by 25% to 150,000 wafers/month by the end of the current fiscal year, to match growth in 300mm semiconductor production, notes the Nikkei Business Daily.

Just weeks ago Rasa increased wafer-handling capacity at its facility in Sanbongi, Miyagi Prefecture, by 20% to 120,000 wafers/month. The company also now reportedly says it won’t spend more on equipment for reclaiming 200mm or smaller wafers, which currently represents about 2/3 of its output (~230,000 wafers/month).

Reclaimed wafers are used as test wafers to ensure processes are within tolerances, and the company says 30% of all 300mm wafer demand is for these test wafers.
