Inficon buys thin-film dep measurer Maxtek

June 1, 2007 – Inficon, a provider of instrumentation and process control software for semiconductor and vacuum-coating industries, has acquired the assets of Maxtek Inc., which has thin film deposition measurement and Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) measurement instruments and accessories. The company says the deal helps bolster its position for measurement and control products in the optical coating market.

“Maxtek’s strong reputation and its products complement INFICON instruments, enabling us to provide a more complete product range for thin film coating processes which are vital for the manufacturing of eyeglasses and precision optic products,” said Lukas Winkler, Inficon president/CEO, in a statement. He added that the move is a follow-up to last year’s acquisition of Electro Dynamics Crystal Corp. (ECD), an Overland Park, KS-based manufacturer of quartz-based products such as resonators and oscillators used in thin-film monitoring and control instruments.
