AMD invests $7.5M in Transmeta

July 6, 2007 – AMD has invested $7.5 million in Transmeta in exchange for an unidentified portion of the company’s preferred stock, the two firms announced.

“Our investment will support Transmeta’s technology development work and AMD’s efforts to leverage Transmeta’s innovative energy-efficient technologies,” noted Dirk Meyer, AND president and COO. Transmeta was “a key ally” bringing AMD’s AMD64 technology to market, and has supported adoption of the chipmaker’s AMD64 and HyperTransport technology, he added.
