SAFC, memsstar pair for SPD precursor mats for nanocoatings

July 17, 2007 – SAFC Hitech, part of the Sigma-Aldrich Group, has signed a deal to supply standard precursor chemical materials for memsstar Technology’s surface preparation and deposition systems, to develop surface coatings on microdevices such as MEMS.

Example applications include microfluidics to ensure hydrophobic or hydrophilic surface properties for devices such as inkjets or microneedles; moisture barriers or anti-stiction properties required by moving micro-sensors; or even medical applications to ensure bio-compatibility, the firms said in a statement.

SAFC Hitech is a market leader in the development and supply of chemicals to the global semiconductor industry,” stated Mike Leavy, CEO of memsstar Technology. “memsstar Technology has gained fast market acceptance in MEMS with its range of platforms for etching and ultra thin film deposition. Together, both companies are committed to help enable the cost effective development of new devices and technologies by their customers.”
