BTU, DEK deal for solar cell metallization

August 31, 2007 – BTU International and DEK International have formed a strategic partnership to provide complete in-line metallization processes for photovoltaic (solar cell) manufacturing, combining DEK’s next-gen printing/handling technologies with BTU’s drying and firing technologies. The deal adds to BTU’s existing presence in solar cells with diffusion and antireflective coating systems.

“Our proven thermal expertise in combination with DEK’s acclaimed printing capabilities will insure that customers receive optimum process control and maximum product throughput,” said Paul van der Wansem, BTU chairman and CEO, in a statement, adding that the partnership will support their goal of “offer[ing] our customers the lowest cost per watt process.”

“This new partnership has raised the bar in terms of productivity and throughput to deliver a distinct cost of ownership advantage for today’s photovoltaic manufacturers,” agreed DEK CEO John Hartner. “This alliance is an ideal foundation from which to drive down the unit cost of solar cells and increase the commercial viability of alternative energies.”
