Microfluidics’s new M-110P promises efficient nanomaterials production

August 23, 2007 — Microfluidics has announced it newest portable Microfluidizer processor, a benchtop lab machine that requires no compressed air or cooling water. The M-110P uses Microfluidics’ fixed geometry diamond interaction chamber technology and ceramic plunger to enable the production of nano-suspensions and nano-emulsions, as well as liposomal encapsulation and cell disruption with the fewest number of passes.

Additionally, the M-110P allows flow rates between 110-155 ml/minute at any process pressure, which the company says is a higher flow rate than any comparable, competitive product. This flow rate promises efficient processing of pharmaceutical formulations, fine chemicals, and biological material ranging from simple oil-in-water emulsions to highly immiscible solids-in-liquid suspensions. All results from the M-110P machine are guaranteed to be scaleable to pilot and/or production volumes.

The M-110P comes with a programmable logic controller (PLC) that manages on board operation including audio-visual alarms, alarm acknowledgment and silencing, and motor starter interlocks. In the event that an operating parameter is out of tolerance, this PC-based system can alert users to respond. The PLC also makes available 10 digital I/O connections, as well as an analog channel for added flexibility. Each processor can be customized depending on specific formulation parameters and is available with options for external controls, such as automated alarms and auto shutdown.

The M-110P offers options for the internal and external monitoring of several variables including temperature and pressure, and can be fitted with optional communication modules that allow remote monitoring and control.
