Qimonda, SMIC extend DRAM deal to 80nm

Qimonda and Chinese foundry SMIC have extended their commodity DRAM partnership with a deal to move manufacturing to 80nm DRAM trench at SMIC’s 300mm fab in Beijing, with an option to go down to 75nm.

SMIC had been working on a 90nm DRAM device for Qimonda since late last year, and the two were hoping to further that deal to 65nm in late 2007.

“The extension of our cooperation with SMIC underlines our partnership commitment in Asia and it further increases our production capabilities,” said Kin Wah Loh, president/CEO of Qimonda, in a statement.
