August 24, 2007 – Despite recent financial woes and product delays, AMD has assured New York state officials that its proposed $3.2M 300mm fab complex in the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta, NY, is still very much in the works, according to a local report.
The Albany Business Review notes that Sen. Charles Schumer sought and received personal assurance from CEO Hector Ruiz that the company’s plans are moving along “without any snags,” and are “right on track.” A spokesperson told the paper that an initial design review of the potential fab has been drafted, and next is to determine a timeline by the end of this year.
Under the proposed plans announced last summer, AMD will build the new 3000mm fab with about $1.2B in financial incentives from the state. The groups later granted a two-year window (starting July 2007) for AMD to start groundbreaking at the site.
