Motorola funds Siimpel to develop MEMS for sophisticated phone features

October 26, 2007 — Motorola Inc., through Motorola Ventures, its strategic venture capital arm, has made an equity investment in Siimpel Corp., a developer and manufacturer of silicon MEMS-based solutions for mobile imaging applications. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

Siimpel’s MEMS solution will allow devices such as cell phones to provide features such as auto-focus, shutter and zoom, providing best-in-class imaging performance all while in a low-cost, micro-scale system, Motorola said in a news release.

“This investment will allow Siimpel to accelerate the production of its MEMS based solutions for handset cameras, bringing the handset even closer to true digital camera-like performance,” said Reese Schroeder, managing director, Motorola Ventures.
