Rexchip, Air Products ink gas supply deal

October 30, 2007 – Air Products and its Taiwan subsidiary Air Products San Fu Co Ltd. have agreed to supply nitrogen and bulk gases for Taiwan DRAM producer Rexchip Semiconductor Corp., the Powerchip-Elpida memory JV. Financial details were not disclosed.

Under the deal, Air Products will build and operate two nitrogen air separation plants at Rexchip’s two 300mm fabs (R1, R2) in the Central Taiwan Science Park in Houli, Taichung. One of the two new nitrogen plants will utilize a high-efficiency design, the seventh such site in Asia, according to Air Products.

Rexchip is planning a total capacity of 240,000 300mm wafers/month for its DRAM fabs in the Central Taiwan Science Park, the companies note in a statement. David Price, regional VP and GM of Asia Electronics, Air Products, added that this deal also gives it a strong foothold in the business park, “which is set to be another cluster of high-tech industries.”
